How to Make CBD Gummies (4-Ingredient Recipe)
This guide for How to Make CBD Gummies includes step-by-step instructions and just four ingredients. It’s easy and budget-friendly to make your own CBD edibles at home. You also have more control over the quality of the ingredients when they are homemade. Make a batch in just 45 minutes!
There are a lot of CBD gummies and edibles on the market. But, if you’re like me and are very picky about the ingredients you put in your body, then you might want to try making your own.
Also, it’s more affordable and budget-friendly when you make your own CBD gummy recipe at home using natural ingredients and a gummy mold.
What are CBD Gummies?
CBD, the shortened name for Cannibidiol, is an active ingredient of the hemp plant. CBD Oil Gummies are simply gummy treats infused with CBD oil.
The Harvard Health blog states that CBD has promising research supporting its use in treating epilepsy, anxiety, insomnia, and some forms of chronic pain. However, more research is needed and there can be some side effects associated with ingesting CBD.
As with any supplement, it’s important that you talk to your doctor to make sure CBD is right for you. And, it’s also important that you do your own research to make sure that CBD is legal where you live.
Ingredients
As mentioned, it’s very easy to make your own CBD Gummies. This recipe for Homemade CBD Gummies only has four simple ingredients and can be adapted to personal preference.
- CBD drops or a CBD oil-based tincture makes these gummies into CBD gummies. You can use whatever brand of CBD you have at home.
- Gelatin gives the gummies their stereotypical “gummy bear” texture. Don’t use collagen powder; you actually need gelatin powder for this recipe. I also use gelatin in my recipe for Healthy Gummy Bears.
- Honey or maple syrup sweetens up the gummies. I like to use raw honey.
- Fruit juice like pomegranate juice adds more flavor and body to the gummies. I like using cherry juice or pomegranate juice in this recipe. Try to find an unsweetened juice so your gummies aren’t too sweet. You can also add a touch of fresh lemon juice to balance the flavors, but this is optional.
You can also make your own juices at home. See my guide for how to juice in a Vitamix.
Recipe Instructions
Step One
To make the gummies, you’ll heat the juice in a small saucepan just to a very light simmer over low heat.
You can use whatever type of fruit juice you like. To avoid too much sugar, use 100% fruit juice like pomegranate juice.
Step Two
Next, whisk in the gelatin and the honey, stirring for about a minute until the ingredients are combined. If you want to make a vegan version, see my recipe for Vegan Gummies.
Please see the recipe card at the end of this post for the exact ingredients and measurements.
Step Three
Turn off the heat and add two milliliters of CBD oil. If it’s your first time using CBD isolate gummies, you might start with just one mg of CBD oil.
Give the mixture one final whisk.
Step Four
The last step is to pour the mixture into your mold. You can do this without spilling by transferring the mixture into a small pitcher.
Step Five
Divide the juice mixture evenly into your molds. Place the molds on a baking sheet and set it in the freezer or the refrigerator to set.
I used these heart shaped silicone molds. This CBD gummies recipe makes 30 pieces total, or 30 servings.
Step Six
Wait at least 30 minutes before removing the homemade gummies from the molds.
Store the gummy candies in the fridge in an airtight container or mason jar with a lid for up to 10 days.
Recipe Tips
- Feel free to get creative with the fruit juice that you use for your gummies. Grape juice or apple juice would be really tasty, too. Just don’t use pineapple juice as your gummies won’t set properly.
- If you don’t have a mold, just make your gummies in an 8×8-inch baking dish and cut the set jello into small cubes.
Recipe FAQs
It’s a very individual decision to determine how many gummies you should take. Please consult your healthcare provider regarding the best CBD dosage for you.
Two mL or two droppers as recommended of the Medterra 3,000mg tincture includes 200mg of CBD. So, each serving of two gummies will provide about 13 mg or CBD. To make the gummies more potent, you can add up to 4 ml of CBD oil (or 4 droppers-full of the Medterra 3000 mg bottle).
Be sure to take your doctor’s advice about using edible gummies to make sure they are right for you.
This recipe is sweet with a nice soft texture. These homemade CBD gummies taste a bit like candy gummy bears.
Gelatin is a powder that gives the gummies their texture. Gelatin is what is used to make Jello. Grass-fed gelatin is also a source of protein and collagen and has its own health benefits. The cbd oil I use is 200mg per 30ml bottle. How much oil can I add before I completely destroy the recipe and gummy consistency?
I’m not sure, but going up to 2 or 3 dropperfuls should be okay.
Is there a way to make this gummies last longer without having to freeze them ?
No because they can get moldy even in the fridge. You could make a half batch instead.
CBD being an oil, when mixing it into the gelatin how can you regulate how much is in each gummie. I tried making and the oil did not mix in very well. I used pure CBD oil not an isolate.
Kim, you would measure out the dropperful to get an idea of how much CBD is in each gummy. It should mix well if you whisk it when the mixture is warm. Is your CBD oil in an oil-based carrier?
No carrier, pure CBD oil from Hemp.
Hi Carrie,
I am new to cbd. I suffer from MS and want to make these. When you say 2ml for the oil is the tincture marked or is a full tincture 1ml. Hope I dont sound clueless.
Hi Nana, the dropper is marked with lines. A full dropper is 1 ml. Does that help?
I tried to make gummies with CBD oil and they were oily and not mixed well, am I doing something wrong?
Did you use gelatin?
I am using CBD gummies for headaches. I purchased them at a dispensary here in Oregon. These are made from hemp, so no THC. I am looking to make my own. Your recipe looks great but, I only have one question. Your recipe states they only last 10 days in the fridge. With the amount of gummies this recipe creates, how can you go through that amount in 10 days? I don’t understand why they would go bad after only 10 days? Can you explain please?
Hi Lydia, you can freeze the ones you don’t use right away. The problem is that they can grow mold, even in the fridge. I would try to eat the ones in the fridge by 10-14 days, and then just freeze the 2nd half of the batch and de-frost when you’re ready to eat them.
Am I doing something wrong? I used 1 cup of grape juice instead of the cherry juice. It made way more than 10 gummies.it made 2 trays of the heart shape trays plus there was a little extra left over.
It depends on the size of your trays. Those heart gummies are really small. Did they firm up well? You didn’t do anything wrong. 🙂
One of my go-to recipes!
Quick update: I also used this as a base recipe for making “tummy gummies” for my husband. I used 1 1/2 cups apple juice, 3 T gelatin, and 10 T Heather’s Tummy Fiber. This made roughly 30 gummies with 1 tsp each of Heather’s Tummy Fiber in them. We’ll see if he likes them better than drinking the fiber dissolved in water.
Thank you for this recipe! I bought some CBD gummies for the first time today from a shop near my home in Washington and was shocked that they cost $3-4 each. That’s not sustainable!
By my calculation it would cost just over $1 each to make them. Way more affordable.
I’m curious about your insistence on there being no THC at all in the oil. The sales person said that a very low dose of THC tends to make the CBD more effective without making you high. Thoughts?
Hi Carry, great! I hope you get some benefit from the ones you bought or if you make your own. I like to recommend a zero-THC brand as a general recommendation, but it’s up to each individual to test out the small amount of THC. My husband is SUPER sensitive, for example, so I just like to play it safe when putting info out there. 🙂
