Fresh plums are a juicy fruit with lots of health benefits. Plums are a great ingredient that can be prepared or consumed in different ways.

Most people associate health benefits with prunes (dried plums), but the fresh fruit is also highly nutritious. It’s high in vitamin C and can act as a natural laxative if things are slow in the digestion department (see my related recipe for my Anti-Constipation Smoothie).

And, when made using a juicer or a blender, fresh plum juice is tasty, naturally sweet, and full of antioxidants.

Why You Need This Recipe

  • Prune juice is made from dried plums. Plum juice is made from fresh fruit and is naturally sweet and delicious. You can use all varieties of plums including red plums, purple plums, green plum, or black plums.
  • Use this recipe when you have too many ripe plums on hand. It’s a great way to use up this nutritious stone fruit.
  • Juicing is a way to get a good source of vitamins and nutrients without having to digest all the fiber from the fruit. See my favorite healthy juice recipes or the juices for bloating.

Key Ingredients

plum juice with labeled ingredients.
  • Plums are a great healthy fruit that is naturally sweet and juicy. Be sure to use plums that are soft and ripe when you want to make plum juice. You can also use this recipe to make Blueberry Juice!
  • Lemon helps balance the sweetness of the plums and preserve the lovely color. I like to use fresh lemon juice or you can also use lime juice.
  • Honey or maple syrup adds a bit more sweetness, but you can leave the sweetener or added sugar out if your plums are very sweet.

Be sure to see the full recipe card at the end of this post for the exact measurements.

Recipe Substitutes

  • Feel free to add additional ingredients to your plum juice recipes to liven it up. Add apples and up to a 1-inch piece of fresh ginger to make it a sweeter version with a zing. You could also add carrots or even celery or cucumber if you want to balance the natural sugar.
  • Want to make a smoothie using fresh plums? Try using peaches or banana to blend with the plums.

Homemade Plum Juice is naturally sweet, refreshing, and great for the digestive system. Try making this recipe for Plum Juice in a juicer or a blender.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 6 ripe plums, chopped with the pit removed
  • 1/2 lemon, peeled
  • 1 cup water (if using a blender)
  • 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Cut the plums into large pieces that will fit through the feeding tube of a juicer. If you will be using a blender to make your juice, then cut your produce into smaller pieces than if you are using a juicer.
  2. If you are using a juicer, then run the fruit pieces through the juicer. Collect the juice in a pitcher, stir in the sweetener (if using), and serve immediately.
  3. If you are using a food processor or blender, add the plums, lemon, and sweetener (optional) to the base. Blend or process on high for 20-30 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Then, pour the blended juice through a nut milk bag, squeezing it from the top down to drain the juice into a pitcher. Discard the collected pulp, or save it and use it for another purpose.
  5. Serve the juice immediately.
